Mutts Mavericks is our innovative adoption support service that helps rescues go the extra mile and ensure adoption success. By equipping new owners with immediate, practical guidance, we make it easier for dogs to thrive in their forever home, reducing adoption breakdown and re-admission, improving welfare and showcasing your rescue as a leader in adopter care.

Every rescue dog is a Maverick: a trailblazer with their own story. Rescue dogs may take a different path, but with the right support, their uniqueness becomes their strength and the very thing that makes them such wonderful companions, just like our Freddie.

Why Mavericks?

We chose the name Mutts Mavericks because rescue dogs are true mavericks in the best sense of the word: unique, resilient, and full of character. Just like independent thinkers who carve their own path, rescue dogs often have extraordinary journeys. They may not always fit the “usual” mould, but that’s exactly what makes them so special.

By celebrating them as Mavericks, we highlight their individuality and strength and show that with the right support, these incredible dogs can thrive in loving homes. The name reflects not just the dogs’ spirit, but also the pioneering approach of rescues who adopt this programme, putting them ahead of the curve in adopter care.

Our Behavioural Philosophy

At the heart of Martyn’s Mutts is a commitment to force-free, positive reinforcement methods. We believe that every dog deserves to be treated with kindness and respect and that behavioural change comes through building trust, not fear.

Rather than relying on outdated dominance models or punitive techniques, we work with dogs to understand the root causes of their behaviour. Whether it's anxiety, reactivity or fear based responses, our goal is to help dogs feel safe, confident and empowered to make better choices. This means:
